Raised bed kits are pre-packaged sets containing all the necessary components to build a raised garden bed. Ours comprise pre-cut wooden panels, stainless steel fittings, fixing screws and clear instructions, allowing you to quickly create a tidy, organised space for your plants to thrive.

Construction

Manufactured in the UK, our raised bed kits use sustainably sourced timber which complies with RHS timber policies. The wooden boards are pre-cut, pre-drilled, sanded and pressure treated for a long life.

A choice of sizes are available, from 2ft x 4ft raised bed kits for smaller spaces, right up to our largest 8ft x 4ft raised bed kit for bigger projects. When it comes to height, you can choose between one and five tiers.

  • The use of an impermeable material, like plastic, to line your raised bed is not recommended. Especially in hot, humid weather, water can easily become trapped between the plastic and the wood, hastening the process of decay and preventing the soil from draining properly.

  • Although garden soil can be used, the best option is to use a high-quality, well-draining soil mix designed especially for raised beds. This usually includes a blend of topsoil, compost and other organic materials to provide the ideal growing conditions for your plants.

  • You can easily purchase raised bed soil from a garden centre, nursery or online retailers. Many suppliers offer delivery services, making it easy to have the soil delivered directly to your home.

  • Wood is a popular choice for raised beds because it’s natural, affordable and easy to work with. It also provides good insulation for plant roots.

  • The amount of soil needed obviously depends on the size of your raised bed. To calculate the volume of soil required, multiply the length, width and depth of the bed in metres, then divide by 1,000 to give the amount of compost in litres.

    For example, 1.89m x 1.27m x 0.35m x 1000 = 840 litres. Bulk bags of up to 1,000 litres can be purchased.

  • Yes, adding fertiliser to your raised bed will help provide your plants with the essential nutrients they need to grow strong and healthy.

    The best fertiliser for your raised bed depends on the plants you’re growing and the existing nutrient levels in your soil. A balanced, slow-release organic fertiliser is generally a good choice for most raised beds.

  • Water your plants using a watering can, a hose with a gentle spray attachment or a drip irrigation system. Be sure to water deeply and evenly, ensuring that the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged.

  • The frequency of watering will depend on the weather, your soil type and the needs of your plants. Check the soil moisture regularly and water when the top few centimetres feel dry to the touch.

  • As prevention is better than cure, the best way to avoid pests and diseases in your raised bed is to monitor it on a regular basis. Physical barriers, organic deterrents, beneficial insects and companion planting can all be used to overcome any problems you may find.

  • Provided there is adequate space, drainage and available sunlight, raised bed kits can be used on a balcony. But do keep in mind the weight capacity of your balcony and ensure that the combined weight of the raised bed, soil, plants and water does not exceed it.
