Safe storage
Storing your order safely
If you do not plan to assemble your order immediately, then there are a few things you need to do to ensure that everything will be in good condition when you come to assemble it. The first thing to do is ensure that you have the correct number of parcels, as we can only claim from the carrier for missing packages for a few days after the delivery. You don’t need to unpack everything as we will rectify any packing errors up to 24 months later.
As a general rule all packages should be stored in a dry place, but there are a few special precautions that need to be taken with the raised beds and toughened glass.
Toughened Glass
Due to the properties of toughened glass, the packs should not be stored with any moisture between the sheets of glass. If there is any water between the sheets, the minerals in the glass will precipitate out, leaving permanent white marks on the glass. After a few months the glass itself will start to bond together, making it unuseable. Note: this only affects glass in storage, not once it is in the the frame or greenhouse!
To avoid this problem, if the glass is going to be stored for more than a few weeks, carefully remove the strapping and ensure that it is dry between each sheet of glass. Store in a dry place.
Timber bases
To minimise the effect of shrinkage and warping we manufacture the wooden raised bases to order. We strongly recommend that the base is assembled as soon as possible after receipt. If the wood is stored indoors then it will tend to dry out, causing it to shrink and possibly warp. Storage outside in a shady but covered area is the best way of minimising changes to the timber.
